Villa Project By Ben Wu
Enter in BEN WU's world stresses refined contemporary art with Chinese style. Andrew Martin Award is a celebration of the most talented designers from every corner of the globe. BEN WU is the first Chinese designer to get the prestigious prize for the second time. Villa Project is composed of 5 atmospheres:
2. Drawing upon his profound foundation of Chinese traditional art, Ben Wu has created his unique design concept known as ‘Modern Orientalism’. Having worked in the interiors industry for more than 20 years, Ben's journey into design began with his studies of traditional Chinese ink paintings with Mr. Fu Wenyan, the last student of Zhang Daqian, a legendary Chinese artist.
In 1998, Wu established WS DESIGN, which now develops multiple design projects from Shanghai to New York that can be considered as the symbol of luxury. From residential and commercial projects these unique ideas all feature his personal and trendy 'Modern Oriental' design philosophy to each, which integrates the elegant design of Western humanism with Eastern aesthetics and philosophical thinking. As a designer, he is widely involved from public space to private clubs, from celebrities' mansions to protected historical structures, as well as art exhibitions.
3.Surrounded by mountains and rivers, this beautiful residential project by Ben Wu is all about the unique contrast between the trendy neutrals and the dark bold touch. From the customized abstract vertical and horizontal ink to the wood carvings on the indoor dining table, the poetic fragment of this project carries cultural memories and functional requirements at the same time.
The spiral staircase, as a form, not only connects the entire space but also shows the unique style of geometric forms inside. In the process of design, Ben has chosen unique colors and materials for the interiors that combine the humble sentiment towards nature with sublime poetry.
4. Coltrane Suspension
Using true Portuguese handcraftsmanship, Ben Wu turned this project into something we cannot forget. In order to create a project with both modern taste and traditional feelings, so that it can pick up cultural memories while carrying functional requirements, Ben made a lot of adjustments to the internal spatial relationship of the building and reshaped the new spatial order.
The standout of this luxurious residential design is the unique living room with an environment with high ceilings that is enlightened by one of DelightFULL's best sellers, known as the Coltrane Suspension piece. With a minimalist and industrial feeling to it, it is not, however, hard to understand where the mid-century inspiration lies. This simple suspended ceiling light, inspired by John Coltrane's smooth jazz vibes, is a great mid-century modern lamp for more minimalist home interiors, as well as for contemporary hotel decor.
